Reflection on my South Korea experiential learning

How has your impression of South Korea changed in the last few days?
My impression of South Korea has not changed in the last few days. The Koreans are quite good in speaking English now. The government had also built an English Village in Korea, this is to encourage the locals to speak fluent English. The Koreans are really trying to learn English well. Hence, there are many Koreans learning English at a suitable learning environment like the English Village.
In your opinion, what are 2 similarities and 2 differences between Singapore and Korea?
I think that both countries have very good education system. In Korea, the students are to study till late night and they need to go to school early next morning. They even have a self learning time where students need to study on their own in the library. Just like students in Singapore, students in Korea have to take many examinations and it is quite competitive among the students. Thus, it is important for the students to improve and work hard in order to go on to promote themselves. In Singapore, although students do not have to study till late night but they are needed to complete piles of homework. Students also have a short period of time to have their silent reading.
Another similarity is that both countries have schools that are very strict with the students attire. In Korea, the female students are not allowed to have long hair . In Singapore, female students are needed to tie up their hair(long hair) and clip up their fringes. Just like the female students in Korea, female students in Singapore are not allowed to wear short skirts (at least up till knee length).
One of the differences between Singapore and Korea is that the Koreans are taught from young to learn to recycle. One example would be the rubbish bin at a fast food restaurant. The Koreans are needed to separate the materials. However, in Singapore, Singaporeans would just leave their trays on the table after eating , which i think that it is not something that the Singaporeans should to do.  Thus, I think that the Singaporeans should learn from the Koreans and learn to separate the materials so that it will be easier for recycling.
Another difference between Singapore and Korea is that the Korea government encourage the Koreans to understand the feelings of the elderlies. One example would be that the Senior experience center was built to allow the locals to understand the feelings of the elderlies so that they would experience how it feels like to be old and maybe create a new gadget for the elderlies in the future. However, Singapore does not have a Senior experience center. I think that the Singapore government could consider building one in Singapore to allow the locals to understand the feelings of the elderlies.
List and explain three of your most memorable experiences.
One of the most memorable experiences would be at the Daegu safety theme park. I have learn what to do when there is an earthquake or a fire. I find it a memorable experience because Singapore does not have a theme park like this. Which I think that the Singapore government should consider building one      so that the locals could know what to do when an earthquake or a fire had occurred. Although, Singapore have not experienced an earthquake before but there is still times where Singaporeans could experience a little shake when an earthquake had occurred in our neighboring country. Not only the children would be able to learn a new skill, their parents who accompanied them could also learn too. This could be a meaningful, helpful, fun and bonding session for families.
Another memorable experience would be at the Daegu senior experience center. My group was chosen to be the "old ladies" for that few hours. After experiencing how it feels like to be old, I was feeling quite sad because I know this would be how my grandparents are feeling.I have seen some of the gadgets before as my grandfather had used it last year. He had an illness thus he needs these gadgets to support him and make life easier. I think that Singapore should also have this because this could allow students t understand how their parents and grandparents are feeling. I think that it is important for students to understand because Singapore has an ageing population, there would be many senior citizens thus it is important for us to understand them. Maybe the future generation could invent a new gadget for the senior citizens after visiting the center.
Another memorable experience would be at the English Village. It is a place where the government had invested a lot of money in it. It is a place where people are needed to speak in fluent English. I think that it is a fun and enjoyable experience because we were able to walk around and explore while learning English. I think that Singapore could consider building a Village like this where locals could learn a new skill or language or subject while having fun. This would attract more people to join and encouraging them to learn.
List and explain three things you have learnt about yourself and your life as a student.
I think I am very lucky to be in Singapore where I do not have to study till late at night and go to school early next morning. I have also learnt that punctuality is very important thus I should learn to be on time and not to be late for any meetings or anything. As being punctual means that we consider the other person's feeling and giving them a good impression of me. I have also learnt that having a proper attire would be important as first impression counts. Thus, we are being thought in schools to have a neat and proper attire.

Evelyn .
